The fact that you have come to this
page on our site shows you are going
through a very important
decision now — whether to continue
on past Arrow of Light and graduation
from your Cub Scout Pack into Boy
Scouting and with which troop.
At Troop 970 over 60 Scouts and their
families from all over eastern Loudoun
County have decided to take the
journey from boyhood to young
adulthood. We all feel that your son’s
next seven years of Scouting is even
more important than the first five years
as a Cub Scout. Scouting will make a
lasting impression on the character of
your son in all aspects of his future;
his life in college, the military,
business and professionally.
Troop 970 maintains a great program
that challenges boys mentally to
become good youth leaders, fine
citizens and better family members.
Our robust program also helps young
men advance physically through a
variety of outdoor adventures. We are
especially proud of our heritage (over
36 years!) which promotes Scouting
participation beyond the limits of our
own troop activities.
Each Troop has its own dynamics and
style which must align with your son’s
personality and your family's needs.
We invite you to look at our

and our web site activities pages.
Above all, we think a boy and his
family must choose a troop on the
basis of the program it provides and
how well the activities fit a boy’s own
desires and goals in Scouting. You
are making a choice for life — your
son’s life.

meetings any Thursday night, 7:30-9:
00 pm Sterling United Methodist
Church 304 East Church Road in
Sterling. Let us know when you'd like
to come by calling our Scout Master

Assistant Scoutmaster Walt Johnson
at (703) 450-7956. We can give you
directions and more specific meeting
information.
At a regular troop meetings you will
find the boys leading boys and
leaders helping where needed. Some
Scouts will be involved with Merit
badge work with their personally
selected merit badge counselors.
Many parents who stay to watch the
action, help with special projects or
just visit with other adults in our troop
family. There is a lot going on at a
regular meeting!
Be sure to visit the rest of our website

Troop 970 WEBELOS Welcome Thursday, February 12 7:30 pm Sterling United Methodist Church A fun and informal event, where you will be treated to a slide show of the past year of fun and excitement had during our troop activities. The slide show and its narration by the scouts will show your boys why our Scouts have chosen 970 as the place to continue their Scouting adventure. No one can tell the stories like the boys themselves. While the Webelos enjoy the show and snacks, parents and den leaders can attend an informational meeting with the Scoutmaster and Troop committee chairman, to address all the issues and questions that parents have concerning this next important step as your boys mature into young men. An easy drive from many communities, with plenty of chances to car pool, Troop 970 serves Scouting families in all of eastern Loudoun County including: Ashburn, Broadlands, Cascades, Countryside, Loudoun Valley Estates, Lowe's Island, Potomac Falls and Sterling. All Scouts are welcome to enjoy the adventures and personal growth available through Troop 970. We hope you will join us. It is always a lot of fun. If possible we would like you to RSVP, so we don't run short on snacks, but come even it you can't call ahead! Also, let Webelos Coordinator (webeloscoordinator@bsatroop970.org) know if you would like to attend a troop meeting, so we can have you assigned to a patrol for the evening, and have an ASM (Assistant Scout Master) available for your adults. We hope you will consider Troop 970 as you make your decision for joining a troop. If we can help you in any way to make the decision to continue on in Scouting, give us a call. Your Scouting fun is really just beginning as you graduate from Cub Scouts! |
